FOREVER BURY, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

When I first came on to the board at Bury FC, one of my first tasks was to join the clubs supporters organisation, ‘Forever Bury’. I already knew of its incredible commitment to the Shakers, long before joining myself, but since my arrival I have literally been astounded by the amount of work and commitment shown by their small, but dedicated, group of volunteers. I think we all agree that long may this continue, and flourish.

A number of its board have taken up voluntary positions within the club, and many of their members are also involved with ‘Treasureline’ collecting, and selling Golden Gamble tickets for the half time draws, both important revenue streams for the club itself. Margaret Ladkin, who represents Forever Bury on the club’s Board, consistently brings their ideas, suggestions, views and concerns to the Bury FC Board Meetings and we, as a board, ensure that as far as possible everything is responded to. Their investment also does an enormous amount of good around the club. Money invested over the last few months alone has enabled us to improve the PA System, build a new TV Gantry, replace a number of damaged seats, and replace the radiators and pipework in the main hall of the social club.

With around 700 members the Trust is growing slowly, but only a handful of people do all the work, and it would certainly help if more fans joined Forever Bury and more of its members became actively involved. Forever Bury will be holding their AGM in a few months and there are several places available on the Board, I would like to strongly encourage any of our fans to join up and play their part in moving the club forward. As soon as you’ve joined you are entitled to put your name forward to be a FB director, and any Forever Bury director who has completed a full 12 months on the Board is entitled to put their name forward to represent Forever Bury on the club’s Board.

On a personal level, I would like to thank Dave Giffard and Margaret Ladkin for the way they have both pro-actively supported everything that I have done in trying to promote the club, and strongly urge people to now come forward to ensure a strong, forward looking supporters association at Bury FC.

Shakers 125

Forever Bury, the Bury FC Supporter’s Trust, is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the clubs 125^th anniversary that falls this year on April 24^th with four days of celebrations lined up.

Kicking off the fun at noon on Thursday 22nd is the annual Forever Bury Beer Festival. This is the 6^th one that the trust have organised with the previous 5 having raised over £47,000.00 and last year’s festival setting a new record total of £11,182.00. With this one being part of the 125^th anniversary they hope to break all previous records.

Former Shakers striker David Nugent has once again come on board to act as one of the main sponsors. Ex Bury FC Captain & current Forever Bury President Chris Lucketti along with former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny are both sponsoring beers and it’s hoped that they all manage to get down to help with the celebrations. A host of other companies and individuals have also come on board as sponsors.

The Festival will also take in St. George’s Day when the fans, being disgusted at successive governments not making the day a national holiday, are declaring it an unofficial Bank Holiday. If you have a bit of the rebel in you and also think it should be a holiday then come on down and help to celebrate this special day.

Saturday 24^th, Bury FC’s 125th Anniversary, and the doors will open again at noon for what is the traditional football afternoon. With live football on the large screen, we are asking for most people to be wearing their football shirts regardless of whom they support. We’d love to see the room filled with an array of different shirts.

The Festival this year also has a military feel. With St George’s Day being a special Regimental Day for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and also Gallipoli Day, another of their battle honours which saw six VC’s won before breakfast, falling on Sunday 25^th. The Fusiliers have sponsored a beer and with so many of them being in town for the weekend it’s hoped that they will be there in numbers.

Opening times are noon until 11.30pm each day with some excellent entertainment lined up for each evening session. There will be 42 beers on offer some of which are being brewed especially and all at just £2 a pint. Several specially brewed beers will be on offer including “Bury FC Anniversary Ale”; “Shakers 125 Lager”; “Gigg Ale”; “6 VC’s Before Breakfast”; “Gallipoli 1915″. We will also have 10 ciders and perrys as well as a continental bottle bar. Hot food is also available.

The lads of Forever Bury FC are joining in the fun on Sunday 25^th when they hold their annual Charity Match to coincide with the Club’s 125 Anniversary.

They are delighted to announce that Forever Bury FC’s opponents this year will be a Bury All Stars team, with blasts from the past returning to the hallowed Gigg Lane turf for this special occasion.

To add to the fun and also help to build the ever growing working relationship between Forever Bury and the Fusiliers, The Army careers office will be coming down and will be providing a Human Table Football game and a Paintball Range!

Charity Football Match

Forever Bury FC would like to announce a special Charity Match for this year, to coincide with the Club’s 125 year birthday. This year’s opponents will be a Bury All Stars team, with blasts from the past returning to the hallowed Gigg Lane turf for this special occasion. The charities that will benefit this year will be: Help for Heroes and Fairfield Baby Unit.

Former legend and Forever Bury President Chris Lucketti is currently putting together a squad, the details of which will follow as and when each player being contacted confirms their availability.

We are working closely with Bury Football Club and must thank them for all their help, and the date for this game is Sunday 25th April 2010 kick off 3pm - the day after the Club’s official birthday, when we are away to Lincoln.
There is also the opportunity for YOU to get involved. We are offering TWO people the chance to play WITH the Bury All Stars Team, and become part of their squad. Details on how to make your bid are on the club’s messageboard

Car Boot Sales

After some uncertainty, the Events, which have proved so popular in the past, will go ahead, with the first taking place next month. There has been speculation this year’s events might operate as a joint venture with the Football Club. However it has now been agreed, subject to ratification by Bury Metro, for six events to be held on the first Sunday of each month, between April and September inclusive, as usual, on the Club’s car park. In addition, it is proposed the Club will operate two table top sales in the social club, covering the months of October and November. Charges for the Car Book events, will like last year, be £10 for a car, and £12 a van, or car with trailer. Each event will be pre-advertised in the local press, and operate from 7am until noon, (with early finish possible if weather is bad). So pop a note in your diary for the first event on Sunday 4^th April.
